I had the honor of playing against the gentleman who introduced me to the game of golf.
To show my appreciation, I wore a white short sleeve oxford shirt with a biege knit tie and cacky
shorts, complimented with the traditional brown golf saddle shoes and a rather sporty straw dress hat with a feather; I was "GQ" if I will say so.
I was very surprised to have received many compliments and quite a few of them were from strangers and women who were playing the course.
I may have started of resurrected a fad because if you will do a study you will discover that "Gentlemen Golfers" did indeed wear ties while golfing; give it a try, it may boost you esteem and help take some strokes off of your game.
However, allow me to caution you that if you wear a tie while golfing, you will need to wear a tie-bar to keep the tie out of the way. If you should have a bad round, well at least you will look good. If you should have a great round, well you will look "Mahvelous" at it!
